My name is Jon Nichols and I’m currently a grad student at Harvard University pursuing a Master’s in Information Technology. I graduated in May of 2009 from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor’s degree in Sport Management. I’m originally from Cooper City, Florida, a small suburb located between Fort Lauderdale and Miami.
I started doing basketball statistical research in 2006 for NBADraft.net. Since then, my work has been featured at HoopsAnalyst, 82games, CourtsideTimes, HoopsDaily, RealGM, Hardwood Paroxysm, and Third Quarter Collapse. I have performed statistical research on many issues, including an extensive look at the draft and college prospects, the translation of Euroleague stats to the NBA, player interaction issues, the impact of shot blockers, the importance of three-point shooting, the effectiveness of different shot types, in-game changes in shooting styles, the effects of superstars on three-point shooting, and many other topics. I have also developed a player rating system called Composite Score, a measure for player value called Value Rating, and a system of classifying players called PAC.
Basketball-Statistics.com was started in October of 2008 so that I could present all of my research in one place. I tend to post new articles twice a week, although that is not set in stone. These articles can also be found either at the Orlando Magic blog, Third Quarter Collapse, or the ESPN TrueHoop Network blog, Hardwood Paroxysm.
